IBEW Local 96 signatory contractor, Zap Electric, based in Longmeadow, MA, is underway with the energy-efficient LED lighting retrofit project at Claremont Academy in Worcester. The City of Worcester was awarded one of 47 Green Communies Competitive Grants by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to help fund the project. The project scope entails the replacement of interior fixtures with high-efficiency, intelligent LED lights. Motion detectors, daylight sensors and digital timers will also be installed into the lighting system to further reduce energy consumption. Worcester, MA – IBEW Local 96 is pleased to announce that 29 first-year electrical apprentices have been accepted into the five-year Worcester Joint Apprenticeship Training Program (WJATP). On July 11, the apprentices attended an orientation at the Worcester union hall. WJATC Chairman Thomas Maloney and WJATC Training Director David Martinelli presented the apprentices an overview of the program, including the rules and regulations and curriculum requirements. The classroom portion of the electrical apprenticeship training begins September 4th at Worcester Technical High School.
