IBEW Local 96 signatory contractor, Zap Electric, based in Longmeadow, MA, is underway with the energy-efficient LED lighting retrofit project at Claremont Academy in Worcester. The City of Worcester was awarded one of 47 Green Communies Competitive Grants by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to help fund the project.
The project scope entails the replacement of interior fixtures with high-efficiency, intelligent LED lights. Motion detectors, daylight sensors and digital timers will also be installed into the lighting system to further reduce energy consumption. In addition, the lights will be network-controlled to enhance energy efficiency. The project will serve as a case study for future municipal lighting retrofit projects.
The project commenced on June 25th and will be completed by the end of August in time for the start of the fall semester. Zap Electric is managing the project with a field crew of eight Local 96 electricians providing the installations.
