45 Worcester Union Journeymen Wiremen receive specialty training

IBEW Local 96 held a Medium Voltage Splicing class (5kV to 30kV) on February 20 and 21, which was attended and completed by 45 Local 96 journeymen electricians at the union hall in Worcester. The specialized, continuing education program was spearheaded by Business Agent Dave Martinelli and conducted by Karl Graeenstetter, Eastern Regional Sales Manager for TE Connectivity and Jim O’Conner of TE Energy/Raychem and Ampact.


Local 96 Contributes to Veterans in Winter Clothing Drive

Journeyman Nate Daniel Recognized for Community Charity Work and Outreach

IBEW Local 96 members proudly contributed winter clothing and other goods valued at $2000 to Veterans Inc. in Worcester through the union’s Winter/Pre-Holiday Clothing Drive. Clothing was delivered on a weekly basis to the veterans organization by Local 96 from the pre-holiday period through January.


IBEW Local 96 Members Attend 15-Hour National Electrical Code Update Class

55 IBEW Local 96 journeymen electricians attended and completed the Worcester Joint Apprenticeship and Training Fund 15-hour 2017 NEC Update Class on January 27 and 28 at the Local 96 union hall in Worcester. The program was instructed by Bill Laidler, a certified code instructor from IBEW Local 223 in Brockton. Another NEC code update class will be scheduled in October 2018.

October 29, 2017 – Worcester, MA – IBEW Local 96 signatory contractor, Dagle Electrical Construction Corp., based in Wilmington, MA, is near completion of the MassDOT Toll Plaza Lighting project on I-90 (MassPike) in District 3, from Exit 13 (Natick/Framingham) to Exit 9 (Sturbridge). The project has included wiring and installation of 145 new LED light poles and lighting controllers for the reconfigured ramps on I-90 in Central Massachusetts.


IBEW Local 96 Conducts “Code of Excellence” Training

October 12, 2017 – Worcester, MA – IBEW Local 96 is conducting ongoing IBEW/NECA “Code of Excellence” training sessions for all Local 96 members. Local 96 and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Central Mass. Chapter formally instituted the agreement in late April, 2017 and training began in mid-July. The most recent course, held on October 11, was attended by 40 Local 96 members. 33 IBEW Local 96 Apprentices Begin Five-Year JATC Electrical Training

September 10, 2017 – Worcester, MA – On September 5th, IBEW Local 96 introduced 33 first year apprentices into the Worcester Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) five-year Electrical Training Program. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Worcester Vocational Tech. Some sessions are also held at the Local 96 Union Hall at 242 Mill Street in Worcester. This year’s apprenticeship class, the largest in more than a decade, is comprised of a diverse group of Central Massachusetts residents, most of whom are recent graduates of Worcester area vocational schools.


Ostrow Electric and IBEW Local 96 Complete College of Holy Cross Hart Center Expansion and Renovation

Worcester, MA – Electrical construction of the newly renovated and expanded Hart Center athletic and recreational facilities at the College of the Holy Cross was recently completed by IBEW Local 96 signatory contractor, Ostrow Electric of Worcester, MA. The electrical project scope was comprehensive in the multi-phase project, which included the renovation of the existing 140,000 square foot Hart Center sports facility and the ground-up construction of the adjoining 150,000 square foot new performance center addition.
